Miami food to star on Bravo's 'Best New Restaurant'

Top Chef head judge Tom Colicchio and hot-head Brit restaurateur Gordon Ramsay will prominently feature Miami on a new food-reality show, Best New Restaurant

The series, which premieres in January on Bravo, pits 16 U.S. restaurants against each other to see which has the best food, decor and hospitality. The winning restaurant will get a splash in Bon Appetit magazine, a show partner.

The network gave and the Miami Herald an exclusive on the Miami restaurants competing: Buns & Buns (South Miami), Dolce Italian (Miami Beach), The Federal (Miami), R House (Wynwood) and Tongue & Cheek (Miami Beach).

The show includes restaurants open fewer than three years. Buns & Buns and R House opened this year, Tongue & Cheek in April 2013, Dolce in January 2013 and The Federal in January 2012.

“To be able to showcase what we do day to day on this large of a scale is amazing, exciting and crazy nerve-racking,” says The Federal co-owner and general manager Ani Meinhold. “We’re putting our all into it and operating with so much love and care that I just can’t wait to see how the show comes out. Imagine if we actually win?!”

The other 11 eateries are from Austin (Barlata Tapas Bar, Porter Ale House, Restaurant Jezebel, Swift’s Attic), New York (The Pines, Morgan’s Barbecue, L’Apicio) and Los Angeles (Church Key, Doma, Little Sparrow, Union).

Colicchio serves as host and has already filmed several on-location restaurant scenes here. Ramsay is a co-producer; the series is modeled after his UK hit Ramsay’s Best Restaurant
