The recently rebranded B Bistro + Bakery wasn’t kidding when it said it’d be featuring “elevated programming,” wasting no time with the launch of Nisei, its first dinner series starting just in time for Peruvian Independence Day on July 28.
The brainchild of Peruvian-born chef Nando Chang (formerly of 26 Sushi & Tapas in Surfside) and Eric Saltzman (Taquiza, Miami Beach), Nisei is a 9-course, omakase-style Japanese-Peruvian dinner served after hours at B Bistro + Bakery with seatings from 7:30-10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings only. Cost is $55 per person.

The menu will change based on ingredient availability and the chefs’ inspiration. A sample menu could include dishes such as Cevichito Classico (raw daily catch in ají limo, cilantro and lime), Hotate Nigiri (raw scallop marinated in honey rocoto kimuchi), warm Ají Shiitake Gyoza (pan fried shiitake mushroom and ají-amarillo-filled dumplings served with leche de tigre blanca), Ebi Jalea (fried shrimp and shiso with sarza criolla), cold Zaru Soba (buckwheat noodles with a light cilantro-leche de tigre emulsion). Desserts include Kasutera, a moist sponge cake made of wheat flour, black sesame and honey.
Nisei will take place July 28 and 29 and August 4 and 5 with plans for future dinners in the works. Reservations are available at NISEIMiami.com.
