The 50 Eggs team opens Swine Southern Table and Bar in Coral Gables
The goods: The 50 Eggs team opens Swine Southern Table and Bar, a porcine picnic in the Gables.
Ambience: The masculine, two-story spot is outfitted with repurposed barn wood, brown leather booths, a pyramid of wooden logs and a lit display of the restaurant’s motto: “Run Pig Run.”
The grub: Southern-influenced barbecue. Prices are reasonable and portions are meant to be shared: Small plates $13-$18, salads $10-$17 and large plates $17-$47.
Start with Black Angus burnt ends, a cast-iron pot of brisket ends in a barbecue sauce, homemade cornbread with bacon and jalapeno or kale salad with fluffy greens, apple shreds and cornbread croutons. Mains include 14-hour smoked brisket; dry-rubbed Memphis-style spare ribs; grilled fish; NY strip steak; and roasted butter chicken with Brussels sprouts, housemade jalapeno corn bread and butterbean puree.
Rib-sticking sides include Jo-Jos, deep-fried russet potato wedges dredged in fried chicken batter, peas and carrots in a butter sauce and mac and cheese topped with “pigtail.” Wash it down with barrel-aged cocktails and an extensive list of rare bourbons and desserts like a giant sticky bun with sweet potato ice cream and cookies with bourbon-spiked milk.
Verdict: The Yardbird team goes whole hog with this ode to porky goodness in the Gables.
