Cinco de Mayo is on Taco Tuesday. Here’s how to celebrate this miracle in quarantine
Just a few months ago, we looked at the alignment of Cinco de Mayo and Taco Tuesday as divine good fortune, a holy miracle of timing, the Gregorian calendar and our national passion for drinking margaritas before we even make it to Hump Day.
Then came coronavirus and quarantine. Our Cinco de Mayo party plans were dashed, our taco dreams dead.
Some local restaurants, however, will not let that dream die, and for that we salute them.
Here are a few of the Cinco de Mayo eat-and-party-at-home options. All of these options are only good on May 5. They involve food, cocktails and DJs - and having your fun while safely social distancing.
We can live with that.
Coyo Taco
Coyo Taco takes Cinco de Mayo as a challenge: How can we celebrate during a quarantine? Easy: with DJs and food and drink giveaways. Also: the chance to win a free gallon of margaritas.
DJ Damaged Goods will host a virtual party on Twitch filmed from the back bar of Coyo Taco with special guest DJs all day (no, you can’t go see it live, don’t be dumb). Follow @coyotaco on Instagram for more details on the performance plus how to win family taco kits and Coyo’s famous gallon of margaritas. If you don’t win a free gallon of margaritas, you can buy one for $39.99 or take out half gallons of rose sangria or Michelada kits for $29.99.
Also for Cinco de Mayo: $4 select tacos and $5 draft margaritas at the Coral Gables, Wynwood and Brickell locations. There are also family-style fiesta meals for $95-$195. Order at coyo-taco.com
Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
This Mexican hot spot on South Beach will have takeout and delivery specials all day, including an all-day happy hour with $2 tacos, $3 Modelo and Corona and $7 bottled cocktails. There are other drink specials, too, including a Margarita Carafe ($30) that serves four or five people, depending on just how thirsty you are.
You can also order trays ranging from $10-$20 with tacos, burritos or guacamole, or a $45 Taco Tray with 20 tacos for a group. You can also order a Casamigos Party at Home kit ($25)with Casamigos, a Paloma set, shaker and bar tools, plus shot glasses and party decorations and a Michelada kit ($25) with five beers and mix.

The Aventura restaurant’s Cinco kit includes two taco fillings (makes 16 tacos), three sides, salsa verde and chips. You can get meat or veggie options, with or without margaritas (we recommend with - bartaco makes a mean margarita). $38-$65, depending on whether you get the drinks or not.
You must pre-order by the end of day May 4, then choose takeout, curbside pick-up or delivery options; order at order.bartaco.com or via the bartaco app. You can also follow @bartacolife on Instagram for yoga, fitness, food, cocktail and live music streams throughout the day.
