Wynwood has a new spot with a retro theme and a menu ‘unlike anything we’ve seen before’

Handout

A new restaurant-slash-bar with simian name and an Asian menu is opening in Wynwood soon.

Back Door Monkey, no relation to the weekly party Back Door Bamby of South Beach halycon days, is the latest from the purveyors of the curiously named restaurants The Dirty Rabbit, The Dirty Burgers and Vandalo Wynwood.

The decor is inspired by 1940s WWII: the DJ booth is made from a war tank. The menu - not featuring any wartime MRE’s as far as we know - is entirely 2020 Miami. Expect a mashup of Executive Chef Nicolas Caicedo’s culinary experience in all sorts of kitchens, from a Michelin-starred place in Spain to some of Stephen Starr’s Miami spots.

More specifically, it’s an Asian menu that, they say, is “unlike anything we’ve seen before.”

We’ll see soon enough.
