Known to some as the “Diddy of the DJ World”, DJ Affect has proven himself to be a musical powerhouse. We recently touched base with Affect to discuss his radio show on 103.5 FM The Beat, spinning in the clubs, and a potential new reality show.
You started out spinning in nightclubs, and now you’re well known for your radio show on 103.5 FM. How did you make the transition from nightlife to the airwaves?
For me the transition was easy. I was approached by DJ Mummy – who was the mix show director of 103.5 The Beat at the time – and he said ‘Dude, why are you not on the radio?’ I was like, ‘Um I don’t know?’ Three days later I started and the rest is history.

What brought you to DJ-ing as a career?
I got started DJ-ing due to a childhood injury. I couldn’t walk for a year after surgery and I watched the movie Juice. As soon as the DJ battle scene played I was like, ‘That’s where I see myself’, and ten years later, here I am!
Why do you love working in Miami?
First of all, Miami is a melting pot of all different colors, shapes and sizes, which is very unique in nightlife. One moment it could be a hip-hop party, then the next second it could be house music, then twenty seconds later salsa and meringue. As a DJ it always keeps me on my A-game! Another reason why Miami is special is because we are one of the only cities left that parties until 5 a.m. People who come to Miami already know there is a party 24/7. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.
Why would the Miami musical landscape be different without you?
I guess you can call me the ‘Mayor of the Music Scene’ in Miami. I literally do every single hot party. How would it be different without me? Let’s just say the club scene would be like the White House with no President.
Why do you love your job?
There is no better feeling than walking into a room with thousands of people standing around, and within minutes being able to make them forget about their day-to-day problems. Being able to make everybody feel great while I supply the energy and music- it’s like taking the world on a 4-hour vacation every night! I do it for the people. To make people feel great is a high I can’t describe. I don’t believe in downtime. The only downtime I get is driving to and from the club, studio, station and every once in a while, to sleep.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
My first album is currently in the works. I’m super excited about that. It’s going to be a compilation album, which will be a guaranteed classic. I’m also currently in negotiations for a DJ-based reality show. All I can say is that this is just the beginning!
