Where Little Italy meets the quirky Grove
The bar
Spasso
The vibe
Nestled in the lush and quiet oasis that is Coconut Grove, Spasso is an unexpected gem where sophistication meets rustic warmth. Brown brick walls and warm lighting call to mind the mom-and-pop pizza shops one might find in New York or Chicago, while the white-washed veranda conjure thoughts of true Coconut Grove cafe style.
Something to Sip
While Spasso’s Sorrentino (made with rum, limoncello, lemon juice and orange juice) does the trick as far as cocktails go, we surprisingly fell head over heels over a non-alcoholic option. Chef Gaetano’s Affogato is a strong decadent espresso made with vanilla gelato and designed to wake you up and satisfy your sweet tooth. It’s virgin, but then again you can always pair it with a little bit of Bailey’s.
Other Sips
When it comes to sips, Spasso’s claim to fame is its extensive wine menu. Whether you’re a connoisseur or a newly-minted wino, a love of white, red or rose, the restaurant’s enormous wine wall holds a gem just for you.
Something to savor
Helmed by Chef Gaetano Ascione (who also served as Chef/Patron at the Michelin rated Chicago restaurant Gioco), Spasso’s menu is about simplicity, tradition, and rustic homestyle goodness. Cooked with nothing but crab meat, Spasso’s Crab Cake is a must. We also recommend starting with a crisp Caprese or refreshing Prime Beef Carpaccio, before graduating to any of Spasso’s thin crust pizzas or homemade pastas. (Our vote goes to the Fetuccini Bolognese and the Wild Mushroom Risotto in the pasta department).
The deal
Patrons will find plenty of deals at Spasso all week long. Beginning October 10, the restaurant will offer a special three-course, Italian-style clambake and seafood menu, available every Monday evening. Beginning September 13, guests can enjoy $16 lasagna during lunch and dinner. Wine & Dine Wednesday features buy-one-get-one-half-priced wine specials, and Thursdays offer ladies complimentary prosecco from 4-8 p.m. at the bar. Finally, happy hour hunters can take advantage of a $5 menu daily from 4-8 p.m.

Chef’s Wine Pick
Primosic Ribolla Gialla
This golden-hued wine features a medium strength alcohol and a dry, slightly citrusy flavor. With its taste and bouquet, young Ribolla Gialla brings to mind fresh hay, acacia flowers and Golden Delicious apples.
