Miami’s modern cocktail scene has moved beyond frozen rum drinks loaded with artificial ingredients and zero inspiration to a haven for serious rum lovers. They converge each year at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival to sample, discern and learn more about the ever-evolving universe of fine rum.
With more than 10,000 people in attendance in 2014, the festival’s success is a testament to rum’s popularity as well as Miami’s role in raising it to a higher level. The revolution continues with the 7th edition of the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival at the Doubletree by Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center from April 17 – 19, 2015.

Coral Gables resident Robert Burr, who produces the event with his wife Robin and their son Robert Burr, Jr., travels the world to encourage hard-to-find rum producers to bring their bounties to Miami. It’s through education — and tasting, of course — that he makes his impact on the market.
Burr’s enthusiasm gained momentum in the local bar community about five years ago when bartenders began tinkering with premium and hand-crafted products, along with fresh ingredients, to serve sophisticated cocktails inspired by the classics or their original creations.
