Best bars in Pinecrest? Here’s a guide to our favorite drinking spots

Being in the suburbs, Pinecrest isn’t usually the first neighborhood folks think of when they want to go to a bar. But there are a few quality establishments where booze takes center stage (or at least close to center—some are technically restaurants). Whether you’re looking for a place to drink with your girls or just need a nightcap before the evening ends, we’ve got you covered on the best bars in this quiet neighborhood.

1. Little Hoolies

One of the best times to be had in Pinecrest is definitely at Little Hoolies. This long-standing joint boasts a daily happy hour (from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.—perfect for day drinkers), plus an extra-busy ladies night, 30 TVs on which to catch just about any game, pool tournaments and more. Karaoke nights tend to draw the biggest crowds here, though Country Night and Open Mics do well, too.

2. Kapallaq Peruvian Cuisine

Cocktail lovers should stop by this chic Peruvian restaurant, where the drink list includes various types of pisco sours, margaritas, mojitos and Moscow mules. Kapallaq opened last year and has become a prime locale to enjoy fresh ceviche and other tasty Peruvian cuisine. But those who simply want a drink are more than welcome to take a seat at the bar, where the knowledgeable bartenders will serve you up one of the best-tasting cocktails in the neighborhood.

3. Flanigan's

Yes, it’s a popular Florida chain, but there’s reason for this. Flanigan’s is an old, reliable friend. You always know you can come here for great wings and pitcher specials. You know you can always catch the game (whichever game) on any of the many screens. And you know you can always take advantage of the late-night happy hour (even if Flanigan’s is only open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). Bonus points for the arcade and air hockey table at this location.

4. Corbett’s

Finding dive bars in Miami these days can be tough, and it’s even tougher when you get to upper middle-class sectors like Pinecrest. Luckily, there’s Corbetts— a dimly lit bar inside a shopping plaza right off U.S. 1 where you can knock back a few into the wee hours of the morn. Seedy but lovable, Corbett’s is the spot to go when all the other area bars do last call (they’re open till 5 a.m. like a good dive should be). Plus, you get plenty of bang for your buck with stiff drinks and live entertainment, pool tables and – of course! – a jukebox.

5. The Cheese Course

OK, so this isn’t actually a bar. But the Cheese Course has a wide selection of fantastic wines and beers to enjoy with your cheese-heavy meal. And since they do close relatively early (no later than 10 p.m. on weekends), you can totally make this your pre-party venue and get a superior sandwich with a glass (or three) of fine wine with your bestie. Besides, your friends will thank you for thinking outside the box for happy hour this time around.

6. Anacapri

Whether you want to go on a romantic wine date or simply want to take yourself out (because hey, you deserve it), Anacapri’s got your back. This popular Italian restaurant features a sophisticated wine bar for when all you want is to sip on some reds or whites. It’s a fairly cozy spot, but that just makes striking up a conversation easier? Or you can always chat with your bartender (or is that sommelier?), who will definitely be able to recommend the right glass of vino to pair with your arrancini balls. Make sure to show up for the monthly Wine Wednesday, where you’re sure to learn a few things after sampling the wines.

7. Keg South

Sometimes, all you want is a chill sports bar for some tasty grub and cheap beer, and Keg South is just the place. Good times can easily be had here by simply calling your crew, getting a pitcher and ordering burgers for all. The menu’s a bit limited, but Keg South makes up for it with some of the best prices on food and drink in the area. And if you feel like making your outing a bit more lively, you can always play pool (loser gets the next round).

8. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

Have you ever gotten sake drunk? It’s a totally different experience from a night of pitchers or polishing off a bottle of wine. Anyway, if you haven’t – or if you enjoyed yourself when you did – you should consider dropping into Gyu-Kaku, where sake is the shining star at the bar. Four types of saketini, four kinds of sake-based mojito, plus a sake mimosa and a sake margarita can all be found on this Japanese joint’s drink menu. But don’t worry. The restaurant also has mai tais, plum wine, micheladas (random, but always nice) and plenty of Sapporo and Kirin to go around if sake isn’t your scene.
