The story: The Miami-London love affair continues as British Airways infuses its flights with a taste of our beaches. Specialty gin-based cocktails designed by local bartender Gui Jaroschy (The Broken Shaker) are now available to first-class passengers aboard the new superjumbo Airbus A380. If the Dollar to Pound exchange rate is weighing you down, head to The Broken Shaker in Miami Beach where this boozy treat is featured on the menu through November. “The Aviator,” Jaroschy’s sprightly twist on the classic gin and tonic, is at once very British and very tropical. After all, gin is celebrated as the (unofficial) national spirit of England, and the airline goes through more than 34,000 gallons of it a year. To make it, Jaroschy combines Tanqueray No. Ten with Fever-Tree Tonic Water, and adds Warre’s Colheita, Bittercube Bitters Jamaican #2 and fresh lemon. The contrast of an overlooked Old World ingredient like Warre’s port with the robust Caribbean accents found in the bitters is what we love about it.
