The story: The weekend after Thanksgiving is a special time in Miami life as the city’s tastemakers prepare for an increasingly frenzied Art Basel marathon. To watch them brace for what’s to come, head to lunch at La Piaggia and ask for a goblet of champagne on ice. You’ll experience Veuve Clicquot Rich, a relatively new cuvée from the trendy House in which the sugar content is much higher and the percentage of Pinot Meunier leads the blend of grapes (more Pinot Meunier than Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). The resulting “rich” and fruity notes are easily enhanced by unexpected ingredients like bell peppers. Cucumbers, celery, pineapple, grapefruit, and black tea also make great accoutrements. We highly recommend spiking yours with tea (read: caffeine).
Where to find it: La Piaggia, 1000 South Pointe Dr., Miami Beach.
