Trick Daddy’s mic cut off at a Florida show. ‘No clean version’
When you go to a Trick Daddy concert, most fans know what to expect.
The Liberty City rapper born Maurice Samuels isn’t exactly belting out church hymns. A brief Google search of his greatest hits reveals the word “thug” in a good number of titles.
Welp. Someone over at the 73rd South Atlantic Regional Conference for Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority in Orlando didn’t do their proper research on the guy. Or they did, and assumed he would bust out a different version of himself that doesn’t exist.
Explainer: Trick was hired for a Friday night show at the Orange County Convention Center, and did what came naturally. On his Instagram, he showed snippets from the concert with sisters of various ages dancing as the star cursed and chanted, “Set it off! Set it off! Set it off!”
But soon into the hip-thrusting performance, the mic was abruptly shut off and everyone had to go home.
Technical difficulties? Nope. Apparently, Trick had been warned about keeping the show PG-13 and to behave beforehand, but blew off the memo.
“We met several times with him and his team to detail our requirements, including attire, language and specific songs,” said AKA South Atlantic Regional Director Tiffany Moore Russell in a statement. “Unfortunately, our requirements were ignored.”
Russell added that the local legend’s lyrics were “not acceptable” and she felt that he showed “disrespect” for both their organization and brand.
Trick wasn’t happy, so took to social media to clear his name and give a shout-out to the “beautiful” sorority gals who attended. Naturally, the video had his signature NSFW lingo, so we won’t embed it here.
In sum, the Sunday’s Eatery owner explained that he wasn’t given a playlist like a “wedding” and he was the one who felt “disrespected.” Trick concluded by saying he’ll never change his ways, so either love him or leave him.
“For any future MF that wants to book me, ain’t no clean version,” said the “Let’s Go” singer. “I don’t know about a clean version.”
