Former ‘Real Housewives of Miami’ star facing a health problem. What we know
Nicole Martin is turning the tables these days — the doctor is the patient.
The former “Real Housewives of Miami” star shared a selfie Instagram video tucked into bed, set to Miley Cyrus’ inspirational song “The Climb.” The anesthesiologist then pulls off the covers to reveal a horizontal bandage across the bottom of her neck.
The caption: “Out of the office: Recovery mode ON ... Not the spring break we envisioned, but happy to be home resting and recovery.” Hashtags included #thyroidsurgery and #sendbookrecs.
Onetime “RHOM” castmate Adriana de Moura echoed what a lot of her followers were thinking, “Oh no! What happened?” Martin did not specify what ailed her, but since comments were left on, other people spoke on her behalf. Some assumed she underwent a thyroidectomy, the removal of all or part of the gland that regulates metabolism, among other functions.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the primary reason for this type of operation is cancer, a goiter or suspicious nodule. Someone else hypothesized she only had a biopsy, which is also a surgical procedure.
Whatever the cause, the Coral Gables resident seems to be doing well. A follow-up post sees her sitting upright, giving out fiction recommendations she received while on the mend. (Her current read is psychological thriller “My Husband’s Wife” by Alice Feeney.)
This isn’t the Bravolebrity’s first health iasue in the public eye. The 39-year-old stepped away from the now-paused franchise in September 2024 after a diagnosis of postpartum anxiety. Martin had just had her second child with fiancé, local powerhouse lawyer Anthony Lopez. The girl, who was born five weeks early, is healthy.
“It all started about a week after giving birth when I found myself having an overwhelming sense of worry and fear out of nowhere,” Martin wrote on social media at the time. “It felt like my mind was constantly on high alert, panicked and worrying endlessly about the health of my baby, myself, and my family.”
