Like tequila but hate the bar scene? Take a tour of a new hot spot in Miami

Didn’t get away for spring break to Mexico? Next best thing: a buzzy new immersive experience called Tequila Town in Miami, near Hialeah.

The 25,000-square-foot attraction — part pop-up, part theme park, with a dash of nightclub — is now inside Toledo Studios, next to Factory Town event hall.

You’ll begin the 45-minute journey with a welcome drink and “passport,” which will be stamped as you enter a symbolic “train.” The converted car, filled with seats and fast-moving images LED screens, doesn’t go anywhere but gives you the illusion of traveling through agave fields.

The destination? The playful conductor will explain you are headed to La Rojeña, the oldest distillery in Latin America, in the town of Tequila, in the state of Jalisco, and where Jose Cuervo is still produced.

Pace yourself. You’ll be served your second drink (of four in total) in an evocative atmosphere filled with colonial-style architecture, actors dressed as 19th-century factory workers, and a mariachi band. Signs educate guests on the process of how the agave is fermented with yeast in large tanks and wooden vats.

As you continue wending through the sprawling space, more surprises await, including a bustling marketplace, large-scale installations by multimedia artist Danié Gómez-Ortigoza and a cavernous hall that gives haunted-dungeon meets Bat Cave vibes.

Built for connection

If you’re tired of the Brickell scene and lines waiting to get into South Beach clubs, this cinematic, trippy happy hour/night out is different, with Instagrammable spots everywhere you turn.

Montana Masback, creative director, encourages folks to make the pilgrimage, but to put their phone down at least for a little and enjoy themselves in an old-school way.

“This place is built for connection,” he said. “In this digital stratosphere, we embrace a more analog approach. To being with people and really let their guard down and let this experience wash over you.”
