Is ‘RHOA’ star out of prison for tax fraud in Miami? Here’s an update
Last we heard from local nightlife impresario Peter Thomas, he was in some serious legal hot water.
In December 2024, the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star was sentenced to a year and a half in federal prison for failing to pay over $2.5 million in employment taxes for his businesses, including now closed Bar One in Miami Beach, according to the Department of Justice.
“Americans can spend their money as they see fit, including on business ventures,” say court documents. “However, they cannot steal other people’s money — in this case their employees’ payroll taxes — to prop up their otherwise failing business ventures.”
Before the August 2025 move to the big house, aka the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Miami, Thomas owned up to his transgressions.
“I was wrong, and I have to pay my dues,” admitted the Jamaica-born Thomas.
The rarely updated account was then handled by “Team Peter” until late Thursday night. That’s when a reel dropped of Cynthia Bailey’s ex giddily dancing to rapper T.I.’s “Let ‘Em Know.” We would share the clip if it weren’t for those NSFW lyrics.
So is Thomas out? Sort of.
While no longer an inmate at FCI Miami, according to the Bureau of Prisons, the TV personality is now in a residential re-entry “field office” in downtown Miami until Aug. 23, 2026. That would explain why the father of five is dressed in head-to-toe gray prison garb, and in a fenced-in yard.
The fun’s far from over.
As part of his punishment, Thomas must additionally serve two years’ probation once he’s sprung, and pay $2.5 million in restitution to the IRS.
