Team USA hockey hunk linked to pop star. Was this a clue in Miami?
Are hockey player Jack Hughes and pop star Tate McRae an item?
The Internet wants it to be so. And if enough people manifest it, these two could be the next It couple du jour.
They certainly both have the celebrity cred: Hughes just helped lead Team USA men’s team to win their first Olympic gold medal since the “Miracle on Ice” team in 1980 in OT; McRae got a Grammy nod for her song “Just Keep Watching,” heard in “F1.”
Hughes, 24, and McRae, 22, were first linked back in November when they were spotted out to dinner in New York City’s West Village. A month later, the Canadian singer and Orlando, Florida-born NHL pro were photographed walking the NYC streets after she watched him ball out with his team, the New Jersey Devils.
So what gives? If McRae and Hughes are indeed dating, her home country would not be happy. Some hockey fans joked that she was to blame when Hughes scored big, and that she slipped him some of Canada’s best kept secrets. Moreover, many Instagram users lashed out when McRae shared her ad for NBC Universal, promoting Team USA at the Olympics in Milan.
“I love you girl, but seriously? How big was that cheque?” wrote one critic in the comments, using the French spelling for “check.”
“What in the treason is this,” another complained.
So inquiring minds want/demand to know the deal.
We do have confirmation that Hughes was partying it up Monday night at E11EVEN nightclub downtown with his boys, sans McRae (at least no one saw her). But gossip Instagram page Deux Moi notes that the iceman was dancing up a storm to her club hit “Greedy.”
“Does this count as an update?” asked the caption.
Though many responded they wanted to see them together, someone else with the handle “Jean Rose” did her/his research:
“Unpopular opinion: I don’t think they are dating anymore. They haven’t been spotted since before Christmas, she was in Paris during the Olympics and she easily could have skipped over to Milan and she didn’t,” wrote the commenter. “Maybe they are keeping it low key but it’s been two months...”
