‘I felt defeated’: Megan Thee Stallion testifies in defamation trial in Miami
An A-list celebrity has been spotted in downtown Miami over the last few days, but not for the reasons you’re thinking.
Megan Thee Stallion isn’t posing or performing, unfortunately. The artist born Megan Pete has been giving testimony at the federal courthouse in her defamation trial against a blogger that started Nov. 17.
In October 2024, the Miami resident sued social media influencer Milagro Cooper, whose Instagram handle is “Milagro Gramz.” Filed in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Florida, the suit alleges “the lengths to which defendant Cooper goes to harass Ms. Pete know no bounds.”
Pete claims that Cooper’s been attacking her from behind a keyboard for years, acting as an “online rumor mill churning out falsehoods,” causing her emotional distress and damage to her reputation.
“Enough is enough,” reads the complaint. “Ms. Pete — a victim of violent crime and champion of women’s rights to her millions of fans worldwide — will no longer stand for Defendant’s campaign of harassment.”
At one point in the summer of 2024, Pete says the fellow Houston native went too far, encouraging her followers to view a “doctored, artificially created [AI] video of Ms. Pete purportedly engaged in sexual acts” without the star’s knowledge or consent.
On Thursday, CBS Miami reports Pete broke down on the stand while discussing the “deepfake pornographic” video in question.
“Though I know it was not me,” the 30-year- old told the court. “I felt defeated because the harm had been done.”
In subsequent posts, as per legal documents, Cooper accuses Pete of having a drinking problem, needing a guardian and questioning her mental health.
Cooper is also accused of being a “puppet” and “paid surrogate” for Daystar Peterson, aka Pete’s ex, Tory Lanez. The “Color Violet” rapper was convicted of shooting the “Hot Girl Summer” singer in the feet during an argument after Kylie Jenner’s party in Hollywood Hills in July 2020. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years and is incarcerated at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. He appealed his sentence and lost.
Pete’s lawyers, citing prison call logs, accuse Lanez of orchestrating with third parties to harass their client.
“Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no signs of stopping,” legal documents say. “Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and revictimization.” In January, a judge agreed, granting Pete a restraining order against Lanez that will be lifted in 2030.
The defense rested on Monday; closing statements began Tuesday. Pete is seeking unknown damages and “equitable relief” to end Cooper’s “vendetta against her.”
