Diddy was just sentenced in his sex-crimes trial. Now, there’s an update

Earlier this month, Sean “Diddy” Combs finally found out his fate after a dramatic eight-week trial in New York City.

The fallen music mogul was convicted on two counts of prostitution-related charges and sentenced to 50 months in prison, plus ordered to pay a $500,000 fine.

On Monday, Combs’ lawyers filed to appeal, despite their client being previously acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. They believe the punishment is still too harsh.

The legal team is arguing that the ruling was improper because U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian doubled as a “13th juror,” and that Combs is a changed man now.

During the Oct. 3 sentencing, Subramanian, who had denied bail for Combs four times, said he wanted to send a message that “violence against women is met with real accountability.”

“We accept the domestic violence. We take ownership of it, and we accept responsibility for it,” lead attorney Teny Geragos told ABC News. “We said that from day one. I said that over and over and over again myself in the trial, but domestic violence is not what he was convicted of.”

“I know I’ll never put my hands on another person again. I know that I have learned my lesson,” Combs told the judge before he handed down his decision. “And I take full accountability and responsibility.”

Appellate judges will be the ones to decide if the rapper’s conviction is maintained or reversed; a totally new trial could be another scenario.

The appeal news comes amid a TMZ story saying that President Donald Trump was “seriously considering” commuting Combs’ sentence sometime this week. The White House flat out denied that report, though TMZ stands by it.

Combs remains behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn awaiting placement to a different facility. Lawyers want their client at FCI Fort Dix, in New Jersey, due to its proximity to family/friends in New York and its in-house drug treatment plans. The website describes it as a low-security correctional institution.

Famous past inmates include disgraced “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Joe Giudice, who was convicted on federal fraud charges and served time there from 2016-2019. The reality alum’s since been deported.
