Lisa Marie Presley had ‘frightening’ ordeal in Florida, mother writes
In her new book, Priscilla Presley recounts an allegedly harrowing ordeal her late daughter dealt with after quitting Scientology, Page Six first reported.
In “Softly, As I Leave You,” Elvis Presley’s ex-wife recalls that back in 2013, Lisa Marie Presley decided to leave the controversial church after investigating what went on behind the scenes.
“Her misgivings reached a crisis,” the 80-year-old writes, explaining that Lisa Marie confronted Scientology head David Miscavige at the group’s headquarters in Clearwater, Florida. “Fearless and angry, my daughter walked into the eye of the storm ... Lisa was never subtle when she was angry.”
The aftermath of the meeting was “frightening,” Presley claims, adding that Lisa Marie called her from Florida to tell her she was being followed and black limos were parked outside her house.
The Church of Scientology, who counts Tom Cruise as one of its most prominent members, released a statement to the Miami Herald late Thursday that the the book’s account was “false.” The rep added that the church had tried to help the Presley family for many years.
For a time, Lisa Marie, who died at age 54 in January 2023 due to complications of a bowel obstruction, lived in Clearwater to be near the organization. The mother of four sold her mansion in 2000 to fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley, who died of colon cancer in 2022, for $1.5 million. The “Cheers” star’s sprawling waterfront estate sold for $5.2M the following year.
