Kodak Black seen sipping a mystery drink while driving. What we know
Kodak Black has managed to stay out of the headlines for a few weeks.
Welp, that dry spell ended last week when the rapper appeared in a livestream doing something very suspicious while driving somewhere in South Florida.
On Wednesday, Black (real name Bill Kapri) was seen behind the wheel of a Bentley, rocking a blinged out necklace and sipping a medicinal looking substance.
TMZ managed to get a grainy screenshot and reported that the bottle appeared to be a prescription strength cough syrup. Many of these meds contain the antihistamine promethazine and the opioid codeine, the latter a main ingredient in a recreational drug known on the streets as “lean,” “purple drank” or “sizzurp.”
Whatever name it’s given, it’s considered a controlled substance and illegal to drive while under the influence of it, even if you have a prescription. Codeine is classified by the Drug Enforcement Agency as a schedule II drug, meaning it has a high potential for abuse.
“I’m sipping that drink raw,” the “Tunnel Vision” singer tells his millions of followers with a smirk.
TMZ reached out to Kodak’s lawyer Bradford Cohen who explained that Black was playing a joke on his fans, replacing the liquid with “harmless juice.”
It’s unclear why the 28-year-old artist would want to troll the folks who spend their hard-earned money to buy his albums. It’s also unclear why Black, who has a pretty lengthy rap sheet, would want to purposefully put himself in a precarious legal position after being on a positive path the last few months.
Over the summer, the Grammy nominated chart-topper — who has a philanthropic streak, especially around the holidays — raised eyebrows when he received a key to his hometown of Pompano Beach.
After the city shared the announcement on its official Instagram page, commenters weighed in.
Some locals appreciated how much the prolific hip hopper had helped out the less fortunate. “A lot of people hating not understanding that this man is nowhere near perfect but still manages to help his community to the best of his ability,” wrote one commenter.
But others couldn’t look past his previous trespasses. Prior charges have included assault, robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, driving with a suspended license and more.
“There are much more deserving people [who] should be recognized,” complained one social media user. “Do better Pompano.”
