Jeff Bezos bids farewell to mom, Jackie. Funeral held in Miami’s Westchester area
Just last month Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were getting married in a lavish ceremony in Venice.
On Friday, the newlyweds gathered with friends and family for a much more solemn reason: to say goodbye to Bezos’ mother, Jackie Gise Bezos.
The philanthropist passed away at her Coral Gables home on Aug. 14 after a years-long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a neurological disorder. She was 78.
Services were held at the Caballero Rivero Westchester funeral home on Aug. 22. Page Six shows Bezos, 61, and Sanchez, 55, walking hand-in-hand into the building on Bird Road.
After the news of her death spread, Bezos posted a moving tribute on Instagram, informing his followers that her “adulthood started a little bit early” after getting pregnant with him while still in high school in New Mexico. (The biological dad is the late Ted Jorgensen., a unicyclist and hockey player.)
Gise raised Jeff as a single mom, meeting Cuban immigrant Miguel Bezos, now 79, while she was going to night school and working during the day at a bank. They were married in 1968, with Bezos adopting her young son, and had two more kids, Christina and Mark.
“That couldn’t have been easy, but she made it all work,” said the Amazon founder’s post. “She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish.”
Sanchez also posted a tribute to her mother-in-law on the day of the service with a text over screen and a heartbreak emoji:
“Those we lose leave us with a quiet instruction…to live with more tenderness, more gratitude, more love. I carry that reminder with me today.”
