Two months after the death of Aubrey Plaza’s husband, a key detail has emerged
Aubrey Plaza was having marital issues with her husband at the time of his death in January, according to new information released by Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department.
The 47-year-old filmmaker, who was born in Miami and attended Killian High in Kendall, died by suicide; no foul play was suspected.
The coroner’s report, obtained by numerous media outlets, stated that Plaza and Baena had not been living together since September, per a statement the 40-year-old actress provided to police. She had moved to New York while the prolific writer-director (“I Heart Huckabees,” “Life After Beth,” “The Little Hours” ) stayed in L.A.
About a month into their separation, Plaza relayed to cops that after Baena made undisclosed “concerning remarks,” the “Parks and Recreation” alum had a friend do a welfare check on him. After that visit, Baena entered therapy, the coroner’s report says.
The last time Plaza heard from her husband was via text hours before his death at 10:36 a.m.; the contents of that message were not included in the report. Baena’s dog walker was the one to discover the body that day.
Baena is survived by Plaza, mother Barbara Stern and stepfather Roger Stern, father Scott Baena and stepmother Michele Baena, brother Brad Baena and stepsiblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” a statement on behalf of Plaza and the Baena family read, soon after the tragic news broke. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
