Russell Brand posts bizarre video from Miami during Hurricane Milton: ‘Finding God’
As folks braced for impact last week when Hurricane Milton was about to slam into Florida’s Gulf Coast, Russell Brand was having a moment.
The comedian shared a bizarre video Wednesday evening, right around the time the Cat. 3 made landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota County.
“From the edge of the hurricane, ” said the Instagram caption. “Finding God in the storm.”
But Brand was about 200 miles away from the eye, southeast of it, in Miami. The 305 was under a tropical storm watch, but fortunately, only saw strong winds and some rain.
“In the middle of this crazy storm in Florida,” Brand says, his long hair blowing. “I pray for those of you that are more directly affected.”
The 49-year-old Brit, who converted to Christianity about six months ago amid sex assault allegations, then went off on a spiritual tangent.
“The storm, I suppose, is a demonstration of the Almighty power that is beyond our control,” he says to the camera while walking along an empty street. “As a metaphor, it helps me to understand that I must listen and watch for Christ, that I must not make moves that are not directed by him and I must keep my eyes on him. As a meteorological condition, it shows me the awesome power of the world.”
Many of Brand’s followers were there for his religious Ted Talk.
“Amen, amen.”
“God bless you and your walk with Jesus.”
“Dear heavenly Father, I ask in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you pull the plug on Milton, blow it with Your mighty breath out to sea and all the others that may follow.”
“I love how on fire you are for Jesus and your enthusiasm for spreading the gospel.”
But there were some skeptics in the mix, with at least a few social media users mentioning the comic’s ties to Sean “Diddy” Combs. The embattled rapper awaits trial behind bars on sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution charges.
“Sorry, but this guy was veeery close to Diddy so....I don’t know why suddenly all the people involved became huge ‘prophets’ in a matter of days.”
“Are you going to talk about P. Diddy?”
“Tell us more about the parties.”
Brand and Diddy costarred in the 2010 movie “Get Him To The Greek,” playing a rock star and record mogul, respectively. In a resurfaced interview with BlackTree TV to promote the comedy, he talked about their unconventional relationship.
“He’s a very intense man because I think he come from nothing and now he’s very, very powerful,” Katy Perry’s ex said of the fallen hip-hop icon. “Say you don’t want to do something and Diddy does want you to do it, it’s really hard to not do that thing.”
