SNL’s Victoria Jackson makes heartbreaking announcement: ‘I’ve had a fantastic life’
Victoria Jackson is using dark comedy to announce some sad news.
In a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday, the “Saturday Night Live” alum gives followers an update on her breast cancer journey.
One video sees her in a medical office about to undergo a scan to determine whether the disease has progressed.
“OK, I know this may be stupid or narcissistic to video my cancer return adventure,”Jackson tells the camera. “I was raised on G movies, musicals ... we didn’t have a TV.”
“In a musical, I would now burst out in song and start tap dancing on the CT machine!” said the comedienne’s caption.
In a follow up clip, the Miami native, 65, delivers a grim report: The “marble” in her chest that is pressing on her windpipe is inoperable.
The Nashville resident, who was on the iconic NBC show from 1986 to 1992, says she is getting treatment, however.
Doctors prescribed a “magic pill” to help keep the malignant cells from spreading and hopefully shrink the tumor. Jackson said the medicine is based on Ribociclib, a revolutionary new drug that has reportedly been in development for 20 years.
After researching the drug on the Internet, Jackson, who graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University, came up with her own survival rate.
“I looked up the pill on Google and it says people who take this have 32.6 months to live — something like that.”
A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine says Robociclib “has a significant overall survival benefit,” but cases vary.
Despite the tough prognosis, Jackson, who was initially diagnosed in 2016, was upbeat.
“I’ve had a fantastic life,” the married mother of two concluded, adding she’d like to see her grandson born in October and get to know the baby a bit.
“His name is Jimmy.”
