As a child of divorce, Zoë Kravitz moved around a lot.

Some years after her famous parents Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet split in 1991, the L.A. native, now 35, made a big decision. She would go live with her rocker dad in Miami.

Kravitz admitted in a new Esquire cover story that the adjustment from her mom’s strict household to her dad’s laid-back one (‘Unlimited TV. Pop-Tarts. Shopping.”) wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

“It wasn’t that my dad didn’t care,” the “Big Little Lies” star said. “He just cared about different things.”

The self-professed awkward preteen also felt she didn’t fit in with her classmates at Miami Country Day, a private school in Miami Shores. She claimed the other kids only paid her attention when the “Human” singer, who was ruling the charts at this point, arrived for pickups.

Lonely, she also missed her mother and felt guilty for leaving, especially because Lenny wasn’t around that often due to his crazy, rockstar schedule.

“I think it was very hurtful that I moved away from her to be with my dad and my dad wasn’t even there,” said the “Blink Twice” director. “I just wish I had been able to appreciate what she was doing for me. She was so focused on preserving my innocence, my creativity.”

At her urging, Lenny and Zoë eventually moved to Manhattan, which was a better fit. She got into the drama club at the Rudolf Steiner School, and began to flourish.

“It was weirdos like me,” she said. “I felt safe.”
