‘I saw who he was’: Jimmy Buffett’s daughter gives glimpse of the singer’s final days

On Instagram Wednesday, Sarah Buffett — who goes by her middle name Delaney, which is also her paternal grandfather’s middle name — shared a sweet post.

Buffett writes that she learned a lot about the Key West legend when he was nearing the end of his life (the “Margaritaville,” singer passed “peacefully” at his Sag Harbour, New York, home on Sept. 1 at the age of 76).
“I knew my dad my whole life but in his final days, I saw who he was: a man whose spirit could not be broken,” says the online eulogy. “Despite the pain, he smiled every day. He was kind when he had every excuse not to be. He told us not to be sad or scared, but to keep the party going.”
The 31-year-old documentary filmmaker is the middle child of Buffett and Jane Slagsvol. They also have another daughter, Savannah, a 44-year-old DJ, and Cameron, 29.
The “City of Angles” producer plans on embracing her father’s memory instead of numbing the pain of losing him.
“As much as I’d like to use that as an excuse to drink myself into oblivion worthy of his literary heroes, I know it’s not what he meant,” she wrote. “Yes, he loved his weed and his wine, but the truth is, most of the time, he was just high on life, and that is what he wanted for everyone: to enjoy the fantastic trip that life can be.”
Buffett stated the obvious, how all around awesome he was, on and off stage.
“My dad was the joy he sang about. He was the hardest working person I’ve ever seen. He was a great man and an even better dad to my brother, sister and me.”

Buffett ends her heartbreaking note thanking all the fans for their kind words, as well as the doctors and nurses who took care of him during his cancer battle so that they could have more time together.
Lastly, she gave the ultimate shout-out to the beloved “Cheeseburger in Paradise” hit-maker.
“You turned nothing into something and gave me everything. I will never be able to repay you or my mom for my beautiful life,” the post concluded. “I will love you forever and I will always keep the party going (responsibly, of course).”
