Where’s Jim Cantore now? See how the famed storm chaser is riding out Hurricane Idalia
Jim Cantore remained a Florida man as of late morning on Wednesday.
The Weather Channel meteorologist, who flew in to Gainseville Monday, is apparently still in the thick of things in Cedar Key, where Idalia was predicted to make landfall.
The monster storm is currently making its way into southern Georgia, hours after Idalia slammed into Keaton Beach in the the so called Big Bend of Florida as a Category 3 hurricane at around 7:45 a.m.
Cantore tweeted a video from a precarious looking stairwell in his “bunker,” its first floor completely flooded.
The 59-year-old industry vet was taking his current, damp situation in stride.
“I want to show you why we’re kind of trapped in this building for a while,” he says to the camera. “But we knew we would be, OK?”
The camera then pans down to show dirty water almost reaching the handle of the front door.

“We’re up 23 to 25 feet,” Cantore explains. “You can see how water is coming into the first floor, which is exactly what we expected.”
This is a good sign, according to the TV star, as the water is now retreating from a “record setting 6.9 feet of storm surge.”
“It’s gonna be awhile,” Cantore says matter-of-factly. “The onshore wind is gonna keep the surge up....
“Maybe it’ll be gone by tonight. We’ll see.”
