The Rock just popped into this Aventura gym for a workout — and people freaked out
No excuses.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson freaked people out late last month when he made a surprise cameo at the Equinox in Aventura.
Page Six reports that the wrestler turned actor sashayed in just before closing, telling the staff that he had just gotten off a long flight and badly needed a workout.
It’s unclear whether Johnson flew into the airport in Miami-Dade or Broward County, as Aventura is kinda in the middle, or if he flew private. All we know is our guy, who entered with two people, was so itching to sweat that he bypassed the check-in process at the door.
The “front desk team was noticeably shaken by the visitors, and had to address them,” a source told the media outlet, adding one staffer couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by the “Jumanji” star.
“He’s so big,” a staffer said before approaching Johnson and having him check in like all the other gym rats.
The Rock reportedly “apologized profusely” and thanked them for letting him push some iron and do whatever else he does to look like a human version of He-Man.
So what was the former Hurricane defensive lineman doing in his old stomping grounds?
On his social media, Johnson tells his followers how he was moved by the story of homeless UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo who recently won his first match, with just $7 in the bank. (The native Hawaiian has often told the inspirational story about how he only had the same amount before he hit big, even naming his production company Seven Bucks.)
With Gorimbo’s winnings, instead of getting an apartment, the African athlete built a water pump for his village back home in Zimbabwe.
So Johnson decided to purchase him a crib in the 305. On the water.
“He never asked me for anything, but I just wanted to help the guy out,” said the star’s post.
On his own Insta on Friday, Gorimbo shared the video of him being surprised by the Rock at the gym where he sleeps: “My life has been changed and I will use this as motivation to change others’ lives too.”
