‘One of the craziest experiences of my life’: Robert Pattinson talks Batman in Miami
Well, look who popped in to AMC Sunset Place 24 in South Miami Sunday night.
Robert Pattinson, to introduce his latest movie, “The Batman,” out Friday.
Attendees were not told the British actor would be there, just to put their cameras and phones away. So needless to say, there were a lot of happy campers.
Introduced by iHeartRadio personality Enrique Santos, the “Twilight” hunk seemed genuinely shy and appreciative of all the applause (and catcalls).
“I wish...” said Pattinson, stumbling slightly over his words. “I’m not very good at these.”
“You’re doing fine, bro!” said Santos, hyping up the crowd even more.
“The enthusiasm from all the fans of Batman, it’s like what makes these movies,” said the 35 year old star who was sporting blond highlights. “After working for three years [on this] and having this energy still is just the greatest feeling.”
Just like basically everything, “The Batman” hit some roadblocks due to the pandemic.
Production on this latest incarnation of the Caped Crusader’s comings and goings in Gotham began at the end of 2019, right before COVID-19 locked down the world. Trouble hit right at the beginning when the movie’ s star broke his wrist during a stunt.
“I remember when that seemed like the worst thing that could go wrong,” Pattinson told GQ. Despite the set’s strict protocols, he contracted coronavirus as well.
Sources also told UK’s The Sun that the shoot was sometimes stressful and tiring and that Pattinson didn’t always jibe with the meticulous directing style of Matt Reeves (“Cloverfield”).
With several stops and starts, the cast and crew eventually wrapped in March of last year.
On Sunday night, despite a sharp dip in coronavirus cases, the virus was still affecting things in “The Batman” universe. Pattinson’s costar Zoe Kravitz, who plays Catwoman, reportedly did not make it to the screening due to being exposed to virus.
“This is one of the craziest experiences of my entire life,” Pattinson admitted about the making of the film. “I mean, to have managed to complete the movie with the world going absolutely insane and also this [being] the biggest movie I’ve ever had anything to do with, and the biggest amount of pressure, I’m thankful. I can’t put it into words.”
