Former Miami mayor Tomás Regalado’s political TV show is taking over the whole weekend
Former Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado returns to MegaTV with a new season of Hoy con Tomás Regalado, offering South Florida’s latest political news and discussing the issues that affect the lives of its residents. The show, which aired Sundays from 8-9 p.m. will now also air on Saturdays from 8-10 p.m.
“I believe that it is very important to do this program since on weekends there is little political and educational content on local channels, and MegaTV’s proposal makes up for this lack,” Regalado told el Nuevo Herald, after explaining that his program will replace a series of infomercials.
“The best proof is that we started with one hour on Sundays, and we were so successful the company decided to add Saturdays, seeing that the ratings exceeded that of other shows.”
The journalist stressed that the program is making a difference by offering voters the necessary information so that they can reach their own conclusions, which is something he is proud to hear from viewers he meets.
“I think we are seeing it now in these municipal elections — which have a very low percentage of voters — our program places more emphasis on the importance of local governments, which are, ultimately, those that control primary services, like police, firefighters, garbage collection and the rest of the services that are needed in daily life,” he added.
“Twenty years of experience as mayor and commissioner of Miami allows me to determine to what extent what politicians promise citizens is true.”
Regalado says that he is working on content related to the state Legislature and the management of local governments, which often goes unnoticed by taxpayers.
In addition to Hoy con Tomás Regalado, the journalist is in charge of the informative segments of the morning radio show El vacilón de La Gatita, which is broadcast Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. by El Zol 106.7 FM.
For Albert Rodríguez, President and COO of SBS, Regalado “arrives at the right time to give this distinctive touch (...) to the way we present the news.”
José R. Pérez, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production at MegaTV, highlighted that “having Mr. Tomás Regalado’s experience and genuine commitment to the community is really a true honor.“
