How do you film a movie about a pandemic during a pandemic? Michael Bay is doing it
There’s a movie about the pandemic, and of course it has a Miami connection.
Look hard enough, there is always a Miami connection.
We currently sit in the “epicenter” of coronavirus cases, so nothing surprises us anymore.
Back to the movie, which most likely which never be seen inside of an actual theater, because, well you know.
“Songbird,” which started filming in L.A. last week, is produced by Michael Bay, who has a home on Star Island, and stars Sofia Carson, who was born in Fort Lauderdale.
The sci fi thriller, which also features KJ Apa (“Riverdale”) as Carson’s love interest, takes place two years in the future, when coronavirus has mutated. Fun times.
Sometimes we feel like we’re living in a sci fi thriller, so not sure we want to watch this, even from our couch. That said, the curiosity factor is real.
Speaking of real, the crew is also dealing with some very current problems.
“Songbird’ was briefly issued a “do not work” order earlier this month; Sag Aftra said producers had not been transparent about their “safety protocols,” Variety reports. It’s unclear if that meant people weren’t hand washing, wearing masks or social distancing enough or if someone was actually ill.
But it seems to be all systems go now, despite all the issues L.A. is having.
Though Miami’s issues are worse, thank you very much.
