COVID-19 didn’t slow us down: Miami Beach is America’s most active city, study says

You may think you have turned into a couch potato due to the coronavirus, and there is a good chance that is true. Netflix and eat has become the safest entertainment option these days.

But if you live in Miami Beach, you are apparently are not living that slacking life because Miami Beach has been named the most active city in the United States.

A new study from Rave Reviews is making this assertion. How did Rave come to this conclusion? As part of its Most Active Cities and States in America study, the website used complex methodology, by which we mean it examined more than 2.3 million Instagram posts tagged with fitness, diet and body positivity-related hashtags. Then it created maps to see where each hashtag was most popular.

Since nobody in Miami Beach can possibly work up a sweat without taking and posting thirst traps, Miami Beach came out on top, posting their #workouts on Instagram more than anyone in any other city. But don’t be sad, city of Miami: You came in second overall.

Rave reports Miami Beach as the most active city when it comes to #Yoga and #Running (Miami was no. 3 in the yoga category and no. 9 in running).

Miami Beach is also apparently the city that uses the #BodyPositivity hashtag most. This may or may not be due to unfettered access to complicated and expensive surgical procedures. The study is mum on that possibility, but we are guessing that the people posting this much all look pretty good in a thong.

Other Florida cities made the top 10s in various categories. Doral was no. 6 in the country under #Running, while Coral Gables hit no. 7 in #Cycling and no. 4 in #Pilates. Miami was no. 1 for #Crossfit, with Miami Beach no. 6. Where you at, Hialeah?

Elsewhere in the country: Hoboken, N.J., dominated “MealPrep” and #Paleo hashtags. And the best quarantine workouts are apparently in Bentonville, Arkansas, where fitness freaks post #HomeWorkout the most, and we guess we would, too, if we lived in Arkansas and not in a tropical paradise.

Statewise, Hawaii is in the lead for #KetoLife.

But even Miami Beach and Miami excellence in Instagram self-promotion could not help Florida earn the crown for Most Active State (we judge your sloth, Tallahassee). Florida is only no. 3 overall in the Most Active State category. The top honor goes to the District of Columbia, which isn’t even actually a real state (at least not yet). DC is the top spot for #Workout, #BodyPositivity, #Running, #Cycling, #StrengthTraining, #Barre, #Pilates, #HomeWorkout, #EatClean and #Paleo.

On the bright side, climate change should let South Florida excel all too soon at #Swimming.
