‘Shameful conduct’: First black ‘Bachelorette’ says don’t confuse protesters with looters
Rachel Lindsay is known for her real talk on her podcast “Higher Learning.”
And now the former “Bachelorette” star is sharing her feelings about the topic on everyone’s lips at the moment: The George Floyd protests.
Lindsay marched on Saturday in Miami, where she lives with husband Bryan Abasolo, her pick from the ABC dating show.
“I heard beautiful speeches,” Lindsay said of the protests that took a dark turn later in the day. “It was beautiful to see so many people in unity marching and protesting for what they believed in and the injustices they’re facing in this country.”
But the Texas-born lawyer did say she noticed a disconnect in her community .
Lindsay said while some people were out there supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, she notes that others were blithely unaware of the inflammatory situation.
The 35 year old, the first black contestant of the long-running reality show, said while there were citizens out there protesting in the streets, others were on their yachts, drinking and partying.
“It hit me so hard,” she complained. “It’s just such a harsh reality that what we deal with and what other people don’t have to deal with because it doesn’t directly affect them.”
On her official website, Lindsay went into more detail about the experience and how upset she was by the “outrageous actions” of others.
“I am saddened that the intent is getting lost in those who are hijacking the protests with their selfish and shameful conduct,” read her post. “I wholeheartedly believe in protesting. It is a basic human right that my ancestors were beaten, sprayed, attacked, and killed for by exercising. But how did we get here today?”
Lindsay wasn’t the only local celebrity showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Pop stars in love Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes were also seen marching on Saturday as well.
