If you quarantined in Miami, you spent a lot of time drinking on Zoom chats, says study
To absolutely no one’s surprise, Miami found a way to party a lot during the coronavirus quarantine.
We are, after all, party people. And we have the credit card debt to prove it.
And thanks to online tools like Zoom and Houseparty, the fact that we were locked down did not stop us from virtually gathering and drinking with friends. Drinking a lot with friends, but more on that later.
The lifestyle and gadget website Improb.com discovered this after conducting a survey of 3,100 locked-down Americans. Turns out that while the great state of Florida as a whole has an average of three virtual parties a week, Miami’s average was four parties a week — one of the higher rates in the country.
Also, Improb.com reports, the virtual partygoers were having four drinks on average. Amazing how much more one can imbibe when one doesn’t have to pay $18 a cocktail plus an Uber driver to get home in one piece.
One in 10 employees attended virtual office drinks parties hosted by their company (sadly, our employers did not participate in anything like this).
But here’s the weird thing: Florida is not the most sociable state. That honor goes to Arkansas and Washington, both of which had an average of six virtual parties a week. Guess we should be glad they take one day off.
The least sociable states: Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Wyoming and, weirdly, Louisiana, where respondents reported they only hold virtual parties two days a week. Apparently New Orleans can’t laissez les bon temps rouler all by itself.
