A Miami woman just found something in her takeout food again. Maybe try cooking?
UPDATE: Gilbert’s Bakery owner Gilbert Arriaza told the Miami Herald Wednesday that the object Esquivel found in her croqueta was a piece of toasted bread, and not a piece of wood. He said he sent her the cake so she would come back and enjoy their cuisine.
Original story: With luck this bad, she ought to start playing the lottery, because it’s bound to change. Magela Esquivel has been forced to eat out during the shutdown, despite having bad experiences with drive thru and take out.
The Miami nurse had an unfortunate run-in back in February when she said she found blood on her Dunkin Donuts bag. The cashier at the Hollywood restaurant had cut her finger before serving the order. She has since retained counsel regarding this incident as there may be health ramifications down the road.
Esquivel experienced another case of so-called dirty dining last week at Starbucks at 80 NW 42nd Ave. in Miami. She found a tubular object in her coffee, later identified by the Seattle-based chain as a part of a whipped cream dispenser.
Starbucks apologized, gave the customer a $40 gift card and promised to do better.
“I don’t know why I’m the person this always happens to; I have the worst luck,” Esquivel told the Miami Herald back then. “But what can you do? I’m waiting to find a finger [next]!”
So, it wasn’t a finger, but something else this time.
During a visit to Gilbert’s Bakery in Miami on Saturday, the Miami woman was about to eat a croqueta when she noticed something that shouldn’t be there. She said she thought it looked like wood.
“Do you know what this is?” the local nurse says in an Instagram video that zeroes in on a glistening, rectangular-shaped object in the croqueta.
Gilbert’s felt badly and not only apologized but baked Esquivel a colorful Mother’s Day cake the next day.
“Well, the owner of @gilbertsbakery Gilbert contacted me ASAP after seeing my post from what happened,” read another post with a pic of the cake. “Let me tell you that he was super nice and it was like I was talking to an old friend; he wanted to make things right and was going to look into what could have happened.”
Seems like the pretty cake got the all clear.
