The day JLo almost ate a carb: Star’s personal chef dishes on her strict pregame diet

Think back, long ago.

To the pre-coronavirus days before constant hand washing, avoiding people and wearing face masks at Wal-Mart.

Feb. 2, 2020: Super Bowl LIV halftime show, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

We were so blissfully unaware.

Many of us had never uttered the word “pandemic” and were too busy thinking about things like sports.

We watched in awe as a 50 year old Jennifer Lopez took the stage to shake her booty like no other before her. On a stripper pole.

Many people, especially middle aged women (ahem), wondered how Lopez achieved those perfect chiseled curves.

Granted, Lopez got hardcore training during her “Hustlers” movie shoot and beyond. But seriously, c’mon. There wasn’t no green screen at the stadium that night. We saw it with our own eyes, Miami.

JLo has got it, whatever “it” is. You can thank surgeons or Botox or hardcore Bronx genes. But the woman works for what she’s got, there is no doubt.

Her personal chef knows this.

Kelvin Fernandez just revealed her pre-Super Bowl diet. And just as we had imagined, carbs weren’t really in the equation.

Fernandez told UsWeekly that in the month leading up to the big game, the superstar ate basically the same thing every day on an “intense” diet.

Breakfast was a big deal, and like they say, the most important meal of the day.

The “On the Floor” singer had an egg white scramble with vegetables “three different ways and every single day,” the chef reported.

All was going smoothly, until one night. Fernandez was mixing things up during a family style dinner with her fiance Alex Rodriguez and their blended family at their Coral Gables home.

The “Beat Bobby Flay” winner made the mistake of preparing each plate with the same things their kids eat.

Carbs. That was an issue. Major.

“The next day, she’s like, ‘Kelvin, you served me rice.’ And I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, there was chicken, there was salad. You grabbed the rice!’” the chef told the celebrity magazine.

That won’t happen again.

“If I mess up once, I will hear it, and she deserves to put me on my point,” he added. “From that moment I said, ‘Alright, Jennifer. I’m going to serve you every single plate individually. Do not look at anyone else’s plate. Do not look at what anyone else has.’”

We can’t blame for Lopez getting tempted. Her family with Rodriguez includes four kids altogether, and those lucky munchkins can eat whatever they want.

So, apparently, it was a question of mind over matter. And JLo met the challenge.

“She’s such a hard worker. When she puts her mind to something, it’s incredible how much can be accomplished,” Fernandez said. “When she wants something healthy, she’ll stick to it. She’s very disciplined.”
