Watch a fight erupt over senior hours outside Costco in Kendall: ‘Miami savages’
An unfortunate situation went down at the Costco at London Square mall in Kendall on Thursday morning.
Shopper Paz Garrido was in line outside the store a few minutes after 9 a.m. when she saw a commotion by the door., she told the Miami Herald..
A Costco member was apparently upset that some older folks were still inside shopping, and she wanted to get in there.
Costco Wholesale Club currently offers senior shopping hours (ages 60 and up) on Tuesdays and Thursdays; those with “physical impairments” can also participate, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
“She was super upset because Costco was supposed to open at 9 a.m. [to the general public] but they had an overflow of older people,” Garrido told the Herald.
In the video she began recording at 9:06 a.m. you see the agitated shopper waving a sign with the hours at a Costco employee.
“She got super upset because Costco was delaying the opening time,” said Garrido, a health insurance agent. “The lady on the video was not having it. Kinda sad, actually. Miami savages. Just shows you how ‘kind’ Miami can be.”
You can overhear a man off camera say, “Somebody about to knock her a-s out.”
A few minutes after the video ends, the worker eventually opened the door to the younger set.
Effective Friday, Costco is changing things up again due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing measures. The store will be limiting people allowed inside.
No more than two people per membership can enter the warehouse with each membership card. In other words, don’t bring the whole fam.
“This temporary change is for your safety and the safety of our employees and other members, and to further assist with our social distancing efforts. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding,” reads the website.
This pertains to seniors as well, said a store associate at the Kendall location, who added that lines start at 7 a.m. to get in. and that security has been beefed up to maintain order.
A spokeswoman for Costco, headquartered in Issaquah, Washington, could not be reached for comment.
