Drake-Rick Ross collaborations have never disappointed. Drake explains why

Not many artists compliment Drake better than Rick Ross.

“Gold Roses,” “Lord Knows,” “Stay Schemin’,” “Aston Martin Music” — the list of hits goes on and on.

While Ross has explained why the duo produces greatness, Drake has never really delved into it. That changed Christmas Day with the release of Rap Radar’s Drake interview. During the near two and a half hour conversation, the multi-platinum recording artist shared why he believes his collaborations with Ross never miss.

“I know he’s going to bar up,” Drake said. “I know what he’s going to bring and he’s just one of the most consistent people.”

Drake went on to give some insight as to why “consistency” in musical collaborations matters. To him, it’s all about expectations.

“If they don’t deliver exactly what you were thinking of, how do you tell them ‘ahh this isn’t...’?” Drake asked. “It can really sever relationships.”

That problem has never existed with Ross. In fact, he gets excited when Ross texts him about a feature because the quality of the product is never a concern. Having that assurance was why his 2015 beef with Meek Mill, one of Ross’ artists, apparently hurt him more than he had ever let on.

“Just being like ‘Man, Ross is one of my OGs, one of my mentors and one of my favorite people in the game and I might not be able to make a record with him again cause he has to pick a side?’” he recalled thinking.

Although the beef did briefly affect their relationship, it’s long since been put to bed. The two obviously have a mutual respect for one another and the rap game is better when they’re on good terms.

Now, if they could just set a release date for the Y.O.L.O. mixtape everything would be complete.
