‘Apology denied’: Camila Cabello taking heat for racist stuff she posted as a teen
Camila Cabello’s past is coming back to haunt her.
Because the Internet, of course.
A social media user with the handle @motivatefenty unearthed some old Tumblr posts in which the singer used racially insensitive language.
The posts were from 2012, when the former Fifth Harmony member was a tween of around 15.
Cabello acknowledged the errors of her ways, and blamed her tender age.
“When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever,” Cabello Tweeted. “I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it. I apologized then and I apologize again now.”
The online detective found Cabello’s old links archived on the Way Back Machine.
At least some posts reportedly include references to the n-word with racially charged images.
“I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart,” wrote the “Havana” singer, not denying the posts were hers.
Judging from the peanut gallery, many of the music star’s followers weren’t buying her mea culpa.
“Girl please from a white person to another, shut the [bleep] up.”
“Being young is not an excuse for racism, of course she should apologize.”
“Save it.”
“Apology denied.”
Though, of course some Camilizers will always be in her corner.
“OMG we got you.”
“It’s disappointing that @Camila_Cabello was or still could be racist. I know shes scrambling trying to think of something to win her fans back lol. She better get a black bf whos willing to take L’s. thats the only way.”
One fan posted a recent (ish) post of Cabello’s that repeats images of a “Black Lives Matter” sign.
“You are one of the kindest person on earth that i know. You’ve already apologized before and you apologized again. you’ve grown into this wonderful and loving person who uses her platform for significant issues. people should grow up like you did and understand this. I love you.”
Someone with the handle @j1990W had a hot take: “I’m 100% black, and I fully support her. I understand that Hispanic people from Miami say ‘n---a’ a lot, and I also think getting worked up over tweets by a middle schooler 8 years ago is whack...”
