Kenny Chesney has come to “define the country music stadium experience over the last decade and a half” and, for this country superstar, it all began with his first headlining tour in South Florida.

On Tuesday, Chesney announced he is to start his Chillaxification Tour 2020 at the same Palm Beach County venue, Coral Sky Amphitheater, on May 7.

Tickets for his concert, which features openers, reggae act Michael Franti & Spearhead, go on sale Jan. 24 via Live Nation’s The 2020 Country Megaticket at www.Megaticket.com.

In 2018, 16 years after that Coral Sky headlining concert, Variety called Chesney, “country music’s only long-term stadium act,” but for the Chillaxification tour he’s dialing it down a bit and playing amphitheaters.

“As crazy and awesome as the stadium shows are – and there’s nothing like them – there is a vibe to the amphitheater shows that only happens in those places,” Chesney said in a statement. “You look out at the lawn, you see everybody coming together, singing the songs – and it’s this community that feels so close.”

The summer amphitheater tour wraps Aug. 26 in Columbia, Maryland. Chesney is still doing stadium dates for Chillaxification — including a May 2nd date at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium — but folding in the 18 amphitheater dates for variety.

“There’s been so much speculation about which cities we were going to hit for these smaller shows,” Chesney said in the media release. “I figured we should go ahead and let people know where we’re gonna be. I know folks make plans, and rather than make people guess, it just makes sense to go ahead and let you know.”
