One of the best places to shop in the world is the place Miami dreads the most

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Miami International Airport probably isn’t shopping.

TSA humiliation, maybe. People cutting you in line; stale, too-cold packaged food; excruciating delays; drug sniffing dogs. Yes, that stuff.

But apparently the retail scene is pretty banging, according to a survey from Global Traveler, a leading industry publication. Twenty thousand luxury and business travelers weighed in the GT Tested Reader Survey and believed the bustling hub was worthy of the Best Airport Shopping award.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, for one, is proud that MIA was able to snag the top spot in the venerated 16-year-old study.

“The Miami-Dade Aviation Department has gone to great lengths over the years to provide an elite shopping experience for our passengers,” Gimenez said. “This award signals that they are moving in the right direction.”

Considering that Dubai’s airport came in at No. 2, yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.

Fancy jet setters apparently loved the “diverse mix of more than 100 retail options.”

We’ve got all the big guns: Victoria’s Secret, Coach and Calvin Klein, as well as more fashion forward shops like Desigual, Cubavera and Original Penguin.

Yay for us!

Just a thought: Maybe you want to skip the mall this year and wait til boarding day to start ticking off your list?
