No dance floor, no problem: Watch Ricky Martin and Eva Longoria shake it at a Miami gala
Ana Navarro, Carlos Vives and Loren Ridinger were honored for their humanitarian work at the annual Global Gift Foundation gala held on Thursday at the Edenrock in Miami Beach. Ricky Martin and Eva Longoria served as co-chairs for the event.
But the shine was stolen from the honorees when Luis Enrique began singing his song “Yo No Se Mañana” and Longoria and Martin couldn’t help but stand up and dance along.
Longoria started dancing alone and soon Martin got up and joined her. Guests quickly whipped out their phones to catch the two in action.
Without a dance floor in the room, they were the only ones moving along to the salsa beat and the stars of the show.
Political commentator Navarro was honored for her humanitarian work with Operation Smile, an organization that helps with the surgeries of children suffering from cleft palate and lip. She has concentrated on funding children’s surgeries in her native Nicaragua; so far she has funded surgeries for more than 40 children.
“We should not give awards for being human, for caring about how the rest of human beings live,” said Navarro. “But I feel very honored about this event in Miami and I am receiving [the award] from my two friends, Ricky Martin and Eva Longoria who inspire change in humanity for me.”
Before Enrique sang, a different artist covered Whitney Houston’s song “I Have Nothing.” Navarro posted a video of Martin and Longoria enthusiastically mouthing along the words on her Instagram page.
Vives was also honored by the Global Gift Foundation for his work with his own organization, Tras La Perla. His organization has received several awards this month, including one from the United Nations.
“You don’t expect to be recognized,” said Vives. “Sometimes it does not feel good to receive recognition for that work because there is still so much left to do”
The Colombian artist described the foundation as “transformative philanthropy.” He said they are working with the community in Santa Marta “to make the aid sustainable.”
Event guests paid between $500 and $1,000 for a three course meal in order to raise funds for the different organizations.
