After 20 years, this iconic cupcake shop is closing its doors in Coral Gables
After 20 years of satisfying sweet cravings across Coral Gables and Miami, Misha’s Cupcakes is closing its Dixie Highway location, bringing to an end Misha’s walk-in shops in Miami-Dade.
The bakery, which was created by Miami native Misha Kuryla, announced on social media that it will be shutting down its location at the former home of Swensen’s at 1586 South Dixie Highway.
The brand’s Instagram account acknowledged that the decision was “incredibly difficult” and called it “bittersweet.” But the move was necessary, according to Misha’s. Even as the business has grown in the areas of catering, corporate gifting and wholesale, foot traffic to the shop had fallen to the point it no longer made sense to stay open.
Misha’s had many words of thanks for the community.
“That store was more than just a bakery to us — it was built with love, filled with memories and became a home where so many of you celebrated birthdays, milestones, late-night cravings and every day moments with it,” the post said. “Coral Gables will always be part of Misha’s story, and we are endlessly grateful to the community that has supported us like family for two decades.”
Kuryla, a graduate of Coral Gables High School, started the business in her home in 2005, opening the first Misha’s at a kiosk in Dadeland Mall in 2007. In 2008, the first brick-and-mortar Misha’s opened at 1548 South Dixie Highway but eventually closed when the building was redeveloped.
In 2024, Misha’s moved into the old Swensen’s space a few doors down from its original home.
The Coral Gables shop will remain open through the end of May. The brand plans to focus on growing its special-order and wholesale business and plans to open a low-cost delivery service.
The brand’s baking facility will move to the Pembroke Gardens location at 14539 SW Fifth St. in Pembroke Pines. That site will remain open as a shop with desserts baked daily.
You can also find Misha’s cupcakes at Whole Foods, Milam’s, Farm Stores, Coyo Taco and vending machines at Miami International Airport, Florida International University and in Aventura. The brand also ships through Goldbelly.
