Katherine Heigl may have forgotten that old piece of childhood advice on Wednesday: Don’t talk to strangers, especially on the Internet.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” alum got into it with a few folks online after her visit to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach Sunday. MAGA critics went after the actress, who attended a fundraiser for nearby Big Dog Ranch Rescue, called Wine, Women & Shoes. The frilly event at President Donald Trump’s resort (he wasn’t home) raised nearly $5.5 million.

After some backlash, Heigl was forced to release a statement to various media outlets, saying her being a celebrity guest there wasn’t political:

“Animals don’t vote. The only room they don’t like is the euthanasia room at a shelter. They are completely at the mercy of us, and they have no voice of their own,” the statement read.

On gossip website Just Jared’s Instagram page, which shared the statement, trolls had a field day in the comments section, and Heigl actually took the time to respond to a bunch of them.

“Who even is she?” sniped one social media user.

“Doesn’t matter,” Heigl replied. “Do you care about animals? If so donate! Time! Money! Attention! Your voice! It doesn’t matter who I am only what I do.”

Another critic complained that there were other ways the “Knocked Up” star could have helped the cause other than “putting on a dress and drinking cocktails masquerading as helping.”

“How are you so sure about that ... have you been to any?” the mother of three clapped back. “Have you donated a significant part of your income to anything? Anything you claim to care so much about? Have you done anything more than comment on what someone else is doing or not doing to your standard? Just curious.”

Yet another person told her to chill, which didn’t go well: “No need to be defensive if you got nothing to worry about, but I guess you do!” the individual wrote.

This incensed Heigl even further with her launching into a curse-filled tirade:

“I’m not defensive dude, I’m furious! What the actual F--?! I’m just trying to change policy and make a difference for these beautiful creatures and I’m getting s--- for the venue I came to?! How are any of us supposed to succeed in our passion to make a difference when every idiot on the Internet has so many dumb f---ing things to say but no action to give?!”

There were more interactions, but you get the drift.

Sunday marked Heigl’s first major public appearance since the Primetime Emmy Awards in January 2024. We’re thinking we may not see the Utah-based dog-food owner out and about again for a while.
