Queen Sofia of Spain was in Athens earlier this month for the opening of the exhibition, Friends and Patrons of El Greco in Toledo at the Benaki Museum in Athens. Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco, relied on a personal circle to inspire and support him during his nearly 40 years of residence in Toledo, Spain, where he headed after leaving Crete in 1567. The exhibit, which will run through March 1, fouses on those intellectuals, collectors and patrons.
