Hyatt Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets recently earned the AAA Five Diamond designation, the top tier awarded to only 0.3% of 60,000+ hotels in North America. It also won "Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World" for two consecutive years. I usually take accolades with a grain of salt, but here, the beauty hits you before you've even opened your suitcase.

In our suite, we try on matching Panama hats. I clock the hot tub on the terrace and mentally reserve it for later with the tall bottle of tequila and two shot glasses. Tequila in the tub or wine from the fridge? Probably both.

SheBuysTravel Tip:Try the tequila in the hot tub.

This adults‑only resort is engineered for reconnection. The formula isn't complicated: the setting, the service, the gastronomy and the sense that everything is quietly handled for you. As General Manager (GM) Mourad Assafi says, "Besides the structural part that I call the hardware, it's also the software. The software is the staff who love the property."

The Software: Exceptional Staff and Intuitive Service for Couples

Butler Service That Anticipates Needs

Staff move mindfully around the resort, intuiting what guests want. There are no lineups, loud noises or raised voices. Spa staff offerwellness experiencesfrom sound healing to meditation to creative workshops. The butler books all activities, including wine and spirits tasting, sunset cruising, snorkelling, e-bike riding around the island and ceviche-making (subject to availability).

So what accounts for this superior service? Assafi explains that staff invest over two hours getting to work each day. As he says, "There are so many hotels in the Cancun area. The people who are still here love working at this hotel. And that sets us apart."

SheBuysTravel Tip:Don't wear a short dress on the catamaran.

Mexican Textures and Sustainable Materials

I wander through the massive cream-colored lobby, with a long vaulted archway that opens at both ends, allowing the breeze to move through. I lower myself onto one of Javier Uma's sculptural seating installations and feel my shoulders drop. The natural materials, textures and colours, aligned with the philosophy of sustainability, extend to the 123 suites. According to Assafi, "When you look at the rooms themselves, we have a very neutral colour, very elegant and elevated. The textures are 100% Mexican."

SheBuysTravel Tip:Take the time to see the Mexican artwork around the resort.

Romance needs space. As Assafi says, "There are no elbow-to-elbow situations. You always find the right spot. Pools are scattered across different elevations, and even at higher occupancy, the resort never feels crowded." All restaurants face the ocean. Guests choose fromseven restaurantsserving food from different continents and five beautiful bars. You can dine at a premier restaurant, sit and sip at five bars, or have the GM cook for you.

A Behind‑the‑Scenes Look at the Team at Hyatt Impression Isla Mujeres By Secrets

On our second day, we join the GM's Table, part cooking demo, part world-tour lunch, part behind-the-scenes peek at the people who run the place. Assafi introduces 13 staff members, from the financial controller to the executive chef and the pastry chef.

Why This Experience Feels Personal

Antonio from Vancouver helps prepare the gazpacho. Steven from Texas mixes the ceviche sauce. Although I don't usually like gazpacho, the layering of flavors draws me in. The couscous with mushrooms tastes heavenly, a mix of sweetness from prunes and savoury truffle oil. The lemon chicken tagine is fragrant with turmeric and cumin. The dessert, buñuelos with mezcal pastry cream and caramelized walnuts, is the kind that makes you close your eyes.

SheBuysTravel Tip:Ask your butler to sign you up for the GM's Table and volunteer to help cook lunch. It's not to be missed.

Endless Privileges: What Sets This Couples Resort Apart From All‑Inclusive Stays

Assafi explains that the resort is not all-inclusive but offers "endless privileges" extending your stay. There is no check‑in or check‑out time. You can arrive at 8 a.m. and leave at 7 p.m. Your vacation begins at Marina San Del Mare in Cancun, with a private lounge offering drinks and snacks before boarding the catamaran. Hyatt Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets offers limitless international and domestic top-shelf spirits and wines. You can also opt for maid service three times daily and a restocking of your wine fridge, among other privileges.

Final Thoughts: How Three Days Reset Our Relationship

The proof of success is in the repeat customers. Essafi shared an email from a guest he met at Isola Bar, who invited him to her wedding. "You welcomed us as guests, not just people," she wrote. Assafi attributes the Resort’s success to the staff. "Staff love the hotel. There are hundreds of hotels they could work at that would be closer for them to travel, but they choose to work here. Staff cross the water to come to work. The heart sets us apart."

Our three‑day partner reset exceeded my expectations. Sharing passions like spirits tastings and cooking demos, experiencing new flavours together and carving out time alone paid off. I left feeling lighter, more connected and already wondering when we could return.
