Carnival cruise passenger dies after fall; Norwegian changes a policy
A troubling trend of cruise ship falls and overboard incidents got worse on April 27 as a passenger died on board a Carnival cruise ship sailing from Southern California after falling from a balcony.
The tragedy follows an incident where a passenger went overboard on a Carnival cruise ship sailing in Australia earlier this month, as well as one involving a crew member on a Norwegian cruise ship sailing from Boston. Additionally, a two-year-old child is currently recovering following a fall on board a TUI Cruises ship in Europe on April 22.
Although the trend is disturbing, cruise vacationers should keep in mind that accidental falls over cruise ship railings are rare. When they do happen they're usually the result of individuals engaging in dangerous, deliberate behavior like climbing or sitting on railings, which are designed to be high enough to prevent accidental falls.
In other cruise news, Norwegian Cruise Line made a change to the dining policy for its popular ship-within-a-ship luxury enclave, The Haven, that's creating some controversy among passengers.
Doug Parker shared more details on the Carnival cruise ship fall incident and Norwegian's Haven dining policy change, and more cruise news, on the April 28 edition of Cruise News Today.

In a statement, Carnival said, quote, "Carnival's care team is supporting the guest's family and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one."
The incident is under investigation. This is the third fall-related cruise ship death this month.
Norwegian Cruise Line makes controversial change to Haven dining policy
Norwegian Cruise Line is making a change to one of its most exclusive perks and it's raising some eyebrows.
Guests staying in certain non-Haven rooms that are connected to a Haven suite can now dine at The Haven restaurant at no extra charge. The catch? They must be traveling and dining with Haven guests.

NCL says those guests won't get any other Haven perks and reservations still must be made in advance through the concierge. The move is designed to give more flexibility for families and groups.
It brings up a good question. Would you be okay if you paid for The Haven and non-Haven guests could come in? Let me know in the comments.
Canceled charter cruise owes more than $600K in refunds
And more than a hundred cruise passengers are still waiting on refunds after a canceled charter sailing. Maryland officials say 103 customers are owed more than $642,000 tied to a 2026 music cruise that never sailed. The trip organized by Capital Jazz was scheduled aboard the MSC Divina but was canceled after the company failed to meet payment options.
Authorities allege that the company continued collecting money even after the charter was called off. The state has now filed charges accusing the organizer of violating consumer protection laws. Officials say more passengers may still be impacted as the case moves forward.
