A new Royal Caribbean cruise terminal for big ships is coming to PortMiami
The Royal Caribbean Group broke ground on a new terminal at PortMiami on Thursday, a sign that cruise giants continue to see the 305 as a key source of passengers.
The new Terminal G, which costs $345 million, will serve ships with up to 7,000 passengers when completed in late 2027. It will have its own parking garage and accommodate large ships such as the Icon of the Seas and others in the same category.
Miami-Dade County is putting in 46% of the funding, or about $159 million, and Royal Caribbean is contributing 54%, according to PortMiami. The Miami-Dade County Commission approved the project in November 2023.

Thursday’s ground-breaking ceremonies included Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and county commissioners, who seemed hopeful that the future terminal’s design would visually appeal to locals.
“This world-class facility will enhance Miami-Dade County’s skyline while marking another milestone in PortMiami’s evolution,” Levine Cava said. “Our modern terminals are transforming how we do business and move people.”
Royal Caribbean describes the single berth terminal as “a strategic investment to meet future demand and accommodate new generations of cruise ships.”
Jason Liberty, the Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO who also attended Thursday’s event at the county-run port, said the new terminal will be built with top technology and sustainable design.
The future Terminal G represents “a major investment in Miami’s future,” the executive said.
Ships from Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises, brands owned by the Royal Caribbean Group, will also use the new terminal.
The Miami-based Royal Caribbean Group has a fleet of 69 ships across five brands.
