The cruise ship Queen Elizabeth pulled into PortMiami early Thursday and will be based in the Magic City for the next six months as it takes passengers on voyages to the Caribbean.

The ship arrived at the Miami port around 6 a.m. Later Thursday, after a series of tours and festivities in port, the Queen Elizabeth is scheduled to depart on its inaugural trip from Miami for a 12-night Caribbean voyage.

During its Miami stay until April 14, the ship will take trips of 9 to 28 nights and visit St. Lucia, Jamaica, Honduras, Mexico, Montego Bay, St. Thomas, Barbados and Puerto Rico.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth to PortMiami,” Hydi Webb, PortMiami Director and CEO, said in a statement.

This is the first time the 185-year-old Cunard cruise company has based a ship in the region.
