A security checkpoint at Miami International Airport temporarily closed on Tuesday, according to an airport official.

TSA checkpoint 2, one of four that gets you to departures at Councourse D, will reopen at the end of October, said Greg Chin, communications director for Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

He recommended travelers use checkpoint 1, near Door 1, or checkpoint 3, between Door 5 and Door 6, to access their gates in Concourse D in the North Terminal.

Checkpoint 2, which closed Sept. 2 for two months, is near gates D22 to D25. The checkpoint shut down so “TSA can install more updated screening equipment for carry-on baggage,” Chin said.

The move comes a week after the airport’s Skytrain returned to service on Aug. 25.

MIA is undergoing a $9 billion modernization plan, and the TSA checkpoint improvement is part of that.

It’s also a reminder that travel through MIA the next few years will require some patience.
